TORONTO (November 20, 2023) – With many families in the GTHA struggling to make ends meet this holiday season due to the high cost of living, CTV News Toronto’s annual TOY MOUNTAIN campaign returns for the 28th year of supporting The Salvation Army in bringing holiday magic to those in need. The TOY MOUNTAIN campaign collects new, unwrapped toys for families, beginning Thursday, Nov. 23 with a special broadcast on CTV News Toronto’s CTV NEWS AT SIX, live from Bass Pro Shops at Vaughan Mills Shopping Centre. Supporters can stop by with a donation and enjoy an evening of festive live entertainment and hot chocolate. Leading up to the campaign finale on Friday, Dec. 22, CTV News Toronto’s Lyndsay Morrison and Andria Case once again lead daily TOY MOUNTAIN progress updates on CTV NEWS AT SIX, Toronto’s most-watched evening newscast, airing at 6 p.m. ET on CTV, CTVNewsToronto.ca, and the CTV News app. Viewers can track campaign updates and find a list of live broadcast and toy drop-off locations on TOY MOUNTAIN’s official website and social media accounts. The 2023 campaign marks 28 years of generosity from viewers and donors, helping to make the season brighter for thousands of children across the GTHA. TOY MOUNTAIN encourages local residents, businesses, schools, organizations, community groups, and CTV viewers to collect and donate toys for all age groups. “This innovative partnership between The Salvation Army and CTV News Toronto is one we are truly grateful for, and we recognize its far-reaching impacts of spreading holiday cheer to families who are struggling,” said Glenn van Gulik, Divisional Secretary for Public Relations at The Salvation Army in Ontario. “The support from our Army of Givers for the TOY MOUNTAIN campaign puts smiles on children’s faces during the holiday season, bringing happiness and joy. For The Salvation Army, this campaign is more than a toy drive. It’s an opportunity for struggling families to access life-changing programs offered by The Salvation Army.” “We’re very proud to continue our longstanding partnership with The Salvation Army, working together on the 28th edition of this valuable campaign,” said James Lewis, News Director, CTV News Toronto. “The generosity of our community members during TOY MOUNTAIN inspires us every year, and we look forward to doing our small part to help make the holidays brighter for children of all ages across the GTHA.” TOY MOUNTAIN’s dedicated online portal features a list of drop-off locations, social media updates, and more. Supporters can make financial donations online and receive a tax receipt from The Salvation Army. A multitude of dedicated Salvation Army corporate partners have signed on to make the TOY MOUNTAIN campaign possible, including Toronto Area Ford Dealers, Access Storage, Best Buy, Park ‘N Fly, and Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Canada.
